Movement Part 1
Welcome to Dispatch Education!! I am Bethany. Today we want to talk about desk workout. We spent some time in May with dispatchers from Michigan at the Michigan Public Safety Telecommunicators Conference. Let me tell you, those dispatchers are FUN!! We presented easy ways to get movement into your daily, at you console, routine.
Today we want are featuring our intro to movement at your console. You may be asking why should I move. There are three reason why we tell everyone to move throughout their day.
1. The more you move, the more energy you have. This may seem paradoxical, but simple movements throughout your day will keep your energy up.
2. An analysis of 13 studies of sitting time and activity levels found that those who sat for more than eight hours a day with no physical activity had a risk of dying similar to the risks of dying posed by obesity and smoking.
3. However, unlike some other studies, this analysis of data from more than 1 million people found that 60 to 75 minutes of moderately intense physical activity a day countered the effects of too much sitting.
SO LET’S MOVE!!!
Lisa is going to demonstrate some simple movements that you can do right at your console. We are going to start easy with head, neck and shoulder stretch
1. Neck tilts (30 secs)
2. Look at the sky, look at the ground (30 secs)
3. Neck rolls (30 secs)
4. Show your guns to behind your back (30 secs)
5. Reach for the sky (30 secs)
6. Open Wide & Hug yourself (60 secs)
7. Shoulder Shrugs (30 secs)
Did that feel good? We encourage you to move and stretch today. Don’t forget to follow us here and on all social media.
